disABILITY LINK

The Center for Rights and Resources

  • Darlene Smith

"disABILITY LINK has helped me in so many different ways.  After starting with this program approximately six weeks ago, I learned very quickly that the more I put into this program, the more I got out of it.  Thanks to the wonderful classes offered and the assistance of Fran Durbin, I have had two interviews with Department of Transportation and an invitation to the 2nd Annual CDC Disability Career Fair.  So get involve and stay right in the middle of this program.  It works!" …

"disABILITY LINK helped me get out of the nursing facility, helped me find an apartment, get grab bars installed and things like that.  I would have a difficult time surviving if not for disABILITY LINK.  I will never forget what you did for me, even now you give me support.  disABILITY LINK helps us take responsibility for ourselves.  People have got to do things for themselves, they cannot expect others to do everything, but disABILITY LINK makes things easier to do for yourself because you get support, it would be hard without disABILITY LINK." …

"I first came in contact with DisAbility Link back in 2006, when I became a member of the 2006-2007 class of Georgia Voices That Count.  Little did I know that attending this class, meeting the staff of Disability Link, and gaining the knowledge and encouragement from Linda Pogue, the program’s director, would forever change and shape my life and my future.   I honestly can state that I would not currently be the Director of the Brain Injury Peer Visitor Association, had I not received the advocacy and community training and encouragement from Georgia Voices That Count.  Over 5,500 …

“In 2007, when my therapist suggested peer support I Googled it and the only organization I found was disABILITY LINK. I called to get information about disABILITY LINK. I spoke with a staff member, and she invited me to come to the center. I was a mess; I needed direction in channeling my energy in a positive way. One staff member spent a lot of time with me helping me to come up with attainable goals while another assisted me with finding a job. They encouraged me to use the skills I’d used on various job by inviting me to volunteer for the center to retain the skill I …

Nathalie A. Matthews has been volunteering at disABILITY LINK for six months and has been a tremendous asset to the work that we do. When Nathalie isn’t busy making things happen at disABILITY LINK, she spends her time caring for others and is always motivated to learn new skills. Her weekly agenda consists of rehabilitation, attending computer classes, and working as a computer instructor and volunteer receptionist. Attending computer classes has enabled her to obtain skills in the clerical field and to accomplish tasks such as communication, organization, and various computer skills. She …

Our Mission:

disABILITY LINK is a grassroots organization with goals, decisions and control of services led by people with disabilities. It is designed to increase independence, access and equal rights for everyone through the empowerment of people with disabilities. disABILITY LINK is committed to promoting the rights of all people with disabilities. We also offer employment services, Independent Care Waiver Program service coordination, nursing home transition and travel training.

IL Philosophy:

Independent Living is being in control of the decisions in your life. It is about taking advantage of community supports and the support of your peers to live an active and engaged life in the community of your choosing. Independent Living (IL) philosophy is about self-determination and removing barriers to live life like everyone else. IL philosophy is at the heart of everything we do at disABILITY LINK.
